UNLV Tradition Supports Outstanding Students
Since 1967, students have benefited from the generosity of current and retired UNLV faculty and staff through the Holiday Card Tree campaign. Donors are recognized on a custom-designed holiday greeting card sent to the UNLV community in early December.
In 2008 more than 145 current and emeritus faculty, staff, and friends made gifts, adding a total of $6,275 to the UNLV Faculty Club Scholarship Endowment. The Holiday Card Tree scholarship campaign has raised more than $55,000 since its inception in 1967.
“It’s wonderful that so many of our campus colleagues have made this a tradition,” says Deborah Young, director of scholarship and tribute giving. “I’m especially pleased that a number of retired members from the UNLV community continue to contribute.
Jillian Fillmore, a secondary education major, and Heather Thomas, a psychology major are this year’s recipients of the UNLV Faculty Club Scholarship. Contributions toward this drive also support Invent the Future, the university’s first comprehensive fundraising campaign.
