Finance Student Broadens Horizons

An international educational experience is a priceless addition to any academic program, and junior Kristen Meath learned first-hand just how valuable it is. Meath, a finance major and a member of the Honors College, is also pursuing a minor in Spanish for the professions. It’s this love of language that prompted her to spend a semester abroad in Spain last spring in an intensive language study program.

Studying in Alicante, just off the Mediterranean coast, Meath spent five months learning the Spanish culture and language. “It was an amazing experience to be able to use the language in the city as you’re learning it,” says Meath.

Meath earned the Stan Fulton Scholarship from the Honors College, which helped her with the costs of attending school. She says the financial support helped a great deal, and her experience has enhanced her education. Originally from Las Vegas, Meath appreciates the opportunities she’s had to go to school here.

“Having lived abroad was an amazing experience, but coming home has made me appreciate it here. I love the opportunities this city gives you,” says Meath.

Meath is planning to attend law school and pursue a joint MBA/JD when she graduates this spring. She says she’ll be prepared for the quick pace and intense study because of the preparation she’s had at UNLV. She also knows that her extracurricular experiences, including service activities with Rebel Service Council and study abroad will give her a wealth of knowledge and experience to draw from.
