Scholarship Makes Performances Possible

For senior Amanda Mura, a large class load is the norm. As a music major and a member of the Honors College, she spends a lot of time practicing her craft and expanding her knowledge. The Stan Fulton Scholarship she received from the Honors College helped to off-set the costs of attending UNLV, and made it possible for her to devote more time to school.

“It’s one of the best things that ever happened to me,” says Mura. “The music program is so difficult to get into, but it’s such an honor to be accepted.  When I got the scholarship, my prayers were answered.”

Mura is a vocal performance major in the College of Fine Arts, and she is studying opera and music with her sights set on joining a professional opera house. Growing up in Las Vegas, she saw that the music program at UNLV could give her the opportunities to learn, improve, and help her reach her goals. She has made the most of the opportunities here by taking on leadership roles in Choir Board and as a residential assistant in Campus Housing.

“I like that students get a lot of individual attention here,” says Mura. In both the music program and the Honors College, class sizes are small and faculty are committed to helping students succeed, she says.

When she graduates with University Honors, Mura will pursue a master’s degree in vocal performance before beginning the audition process with opera houses. With the experience and practice she’s had at UNLV, she’s on the right path to meeting her goals.
