Student Finds Her Place at Boyd School of Law

Whether it’s through the legal clinic, moot court, academics, internships, or community service, there is an avenue for students to find their place and be successful at the William S. Boyd School of Law.  “The school always provides an opportunity for you to shine and do different things,” says law student Elham Roohani.

Roohani has found her niche and serves this year as the editor in chief of the Nevada Law Journal, which is the primary publication of the law school. “I like working with my peers, and this gives me an opportunity to interact with them on an intellectual level and also be creative in problem solving,” says Roohani.

She is also an active volunteer with the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada where she was able to teach a class to community members.  She says she values this experience because she was able to work with real people and see the difference legal aid makes.

Boyd School of Law focuses on giving students a good balance, says Roohani.  She likes that the focus isn’t just on academics, but also on gaining experience, working with peers, and finding the area that allows students to thrive.

Roohani earned a scholarship to attend law school at UNLV which covers part of her tuition.  “The scholarship made a big difference because I don’t have to work while in school, which is what allows me to do all these other things,” she says.

These other activities are preparing her for a career in real estate law, which she says is the most interesting to her as a Las Vegas native. She’ll be putting her skills to use this summer in an internship with a law firm specializing in real estate work to gain additional hands-on experience.
